WINONA, Minn. – The WSU softball team will travel to Shawnee, Kan. to play four games over the weekend in the Midwest College Classic.
The Winona State Warriors will travel to Shawnee, Kan. and play against Missouri Western State to kick off the weekend on Friday, February 27th at 10:00am followed by Quincy University at 12:30pm. The next day, WSU will face Pittsburg State at 2:40pm and will finish with a night game under the lights against Fort Hays State at 5:00pm.
Winona State Notes:
- Winona State currently holds a 9-2 overall record after winning three out of their four games at the Lewis Dome Invitational last weekend.
- Star pitchers Izzy Howe and Jayda Berg have both started the season strong collecting 5-0 and 4-1 record, respectively.
- Tiegan Mancuso has started the season with a batting average of .531 and an OPS of 1.150.
- Bryn Elsenpeter, Braelee Jodarski, Jenna James, Ava Smith and Nicole Weinberger have all hit homeruns so far this season.
- Alyssa Woelfel leads the team in stolen bases with four-on-four attempts.
- Winona State is coached by Greg Jones who will be entering his 27th season with the Warriors and has collected 1,013 wins with only 352 losses.
Missouri Western State:
- Missouri Western State is coached by Nicole Thompson who is entering her second season with the Griffons and holds a 44-23 record.
- The Griffons have started the season 12-2 after winning three out of their four games at the DII Branson Battle.
- MWSU is led by senior Ayva McComas who is batting .386 so far this season, with a 1.167 OPS.
Quincy Notes:
- Quincy is coached by Cathy Monroe who is entering her third season with the Hawks.
- The Hawks have started the season 2-10 after dropping all four contests at the Lewis Dome Invitational.
- QU is led by freshman Makala Koozer who is batting .429 so far this season, with a OPS of 1.088.
Pittsburgh State Notes:
- Pittsburgh State is coached by Josh Barnes who is entering his second season with the Gorillas and currently holds a 55-16 record.
- The Gorillas have started the season with a perfect 17-0 record after sweeping #24 ranked McKendree in a MIAA/GLVC Crossover double header.
- PSU is led by senior Heather Arnett who is batting .582 on the season with an OPS of 1.295.
Fort Hays State Notes:
- Fort Hays State is coached by Adrian Pilkington who is entering her 12th season with the Tigers and currently holds 249 wins with the program.
- The Tigers have started the season 4-5 after splitting their four games at the Washburn Invitational last weekend.
- FHSU is led by sophomore Hannah Green who is batting .485 on the season and has an OPS of 1.120.
