WINONA, Minn. – Winona State football has announced staffing updates under Head Coach
Brian Curtin.
"I'm extremely excited about this staff," noted Curtin. "The quality of coaches we were able to add is outstanding and will elevate our program going forward. They bring a wealth of football knowledge, more importantly, they are high-character individuals who will do a great job connecting with and developing our players."
Nick Miller; Offensive Coordinator/Quarterbacks. Miller joined WSU's football staff in July of 2025 as the quarterbacks coach for the 2025 season. Miller will now transition to the offensive coordinator while retaining the quarterbacks under his coaching.
Kendrick Van Ackeren; Defensive Coordinator/Defensive Backs. Van Ackeren joined the Warriors this spring as the defensive coordinator. Van Ackeren was most recently at Northwestern State as the defensive backs coach for a season after spending two seasons as the defensive coordinator at Arkansas Tech.
Ryan Tuley; Run Game Coordinator/Defensive Line. Tuley came to Winona State in July 2024 and has spent the last two seasons as the defensive line coach. Tuley will now also add run game coordinator to his duties this fall.
Nick Holeton; Offensive Line. Holeton joined the Warrior staff this spring as the offensive line coach. Holeton previously was at McKendree for the past four seasons as the offensive line coach while being the run game coordinator from 2022-2024 and added offensive coordinator duties to his role with the Bearcats in 2025.
Matt Linehan; Wide Receivers. Linehan was hired this spring as WSU's wide receivers coach. Linehan served at the University of Idaho as their offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach last season after spending three seasons with the wide receivers for the Vandals.
Deven Dettloff (running backs),
Nixon Heggie (special teams coordinator/linebackers), and
Dean O'Brien (tight ends/fullbacks) all return for the 2026 season.
