WINONA, Minn. – The Winona State softball team swept the UMary in a doubleheader with scores of 8-0 and 6-3.
The Winona State Warriors softball team was able to take care of the UMary Marauders to start their weekend road trip helping them remain undefeated in conference play at 6-0 and 27-4 overall.
Game One: WSU (8) – UMary (0)
Winona State's
Izzy Howe would help lead the Warriors to a shutout win over the Marauders after a slow start offensively.
Bryn Elsenpeter would light the spark for WSU in the top of the third inning with a single and
Alyssa Woelfel would score on an error by the center fielder on the same play.
Ava Smith would show her power in the third as well with a three RBI home run to right field to give the Warriors a 5-0 lead.
Elsenpeter would follow up in the top of the fourth inning with her seventh home run of the season scoring
Lila McNeill to make the score 7-0.
Hannah Soderbeck would hit the final blow with a RBI single scoring
Jaden Johnson in the top of the fifth. Howe would finish the game with her 12th win and collected nine strikeouts in five innings pitched.
Game Two: WSU (6) – UMary (3)
In game two, Elsenpeter and
Braelee Jodarski would hit singles, scoring three runs in total and giving the Warriors the early advantage. After a UMary run scoring in the bottom of the first, the score would be 3-1 in favor of WSU going into the second inning.
Alyssa Woelfel would find the barrel of the bat in the top of the sixth inning hitting a homerun of her own scoring
Lauren Volling.
Jayda Berg would pitch a complete game and finish in the bottom of the seventh, the Marauders found themselves with a couple RBIs, but Berg would ultimately end the game with two strikeouts in her seven innings and a final score of 6-3.
Winona State will be in action next on Saturday, March 29th at 12:00pm against the Minot State Beavers in a doubleheader.
