BEMIDJI, Minn. – The Winona State softball team was able to sweep Bemidji State with scores of 10-3 and 15-2.
The Warriors were able to take game one with a score of 10-3 and finished out the twin bill with a blowout victory of 15-2 to boost them to 21-3 in the NSIC and 42-7 overall.
Game One: WSU (10) – BSU (3)
In an action-packed game one, the Winona State Warriors were able to strike first with a
Bryn Elsenpeter single through the right side that brought in
Alyssa Woelfel who scored on a wild throw. The Beavers were able to bounce back and tie the game in the bottom of the first, 1-1. It was all WSU after that with a Woelfel double through the left side that scored
Nicole Weinberger in the top of the sixth and a
Tiegan Mancuso RBI single to center field that gave Winona State a 5-1 lead going into the seventh.
Braelee Jodarski gave Winona State some insurance runs in the top of the seventh with a sacrifice fly out that would score Elsenpeter. Also,
Ashlee Chantos collected an RBI single scoring
Hannah Soderbeck, along with a
Lila McNeill single that would score two Warrior runners off an error by the Bemidji State center fielder making the score 10-1 going into the bottom of the seventh inning. Pitcher
Izzy Howe pitched the complete game garnering 10 strikeouts and only allowing four hits, along with finishing the game with a 10-3 final score.
Game Two: WSU (15) – BSU (2)
Just like game one, game two started off strong with an Elsenpeter sacrifice fly out and a Woelfel RBI double, leaving the score at 2-0 Winona State. Elsenpeter would show off her power in the third inning, sending a solo rocket to beyond the fence and grabbing her ninth home run of the season.
Jaden Johnson grabbed herself an RBI in the third as well along with Chantos on a single up the middle.Weinberger and Woelfel would both double in the top of the fifth inning, extending the Warrior lead to 7-1.
Mancuso would also collect an RBI in the fifth off a single down the left field line scoring Weinberger. Johnson would send another WSU solo shot to outer space in the sixth inning making the Warrior lead 9-2. Winona State was able to attack the Beaver defense in the top of seven scoring six runs including an
Ava Smith two RBI double to finish the game with a score of 15-2.
Jayda Berg and
Ashley Theisen would collectively grab nine strikeouts with only two earned runs allowed, and Berg would earn her 18th win of the season.
Winona State (42-7, 21-3) remain atop of the NSIC standings and will play next, at Minnesota Duluth tomorrow, April 26th at 12:00pm.
