WINONA, Minn. – The Winona State softball team took the second game in a doubleheader against Minnesota State on the road.
In a doubleheader against the Minnesota State University, Mankato Mavericks, the Winona State Warriors would fall short in the first game losing 6-2 but would rally back in game two off a two-run shot by
Alyssa Woelfel in the top of the sixth innings to win 3-2.
Game One: MSU (6) – WSU (2)
The Mavericks would hop on the scoreboard first, taking a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the third inning. Woelfel was able to drive in
Jaden Johnson with a single down the left side tying the game up at 1-1 apiece. It was all Minnesota State after that as they would slowly increase their lead to 6-1 by the sixth inning.
Braelee Jodarski would drive in
Bryn Elsenpeter in the top of seven, but the final score would end 6-2 in favor of MSU.
Izzy Howe would collect the loss moving her record to 12-3. Howe would earn four strikeouts and allow four earned runs.
Game Two: WSU (3) – MSU (2)
In a low scoring game, the Warriors would take an early lead in the first inning off a
Lila McNeill RBI. Winona State would give up two runs in the second inning and would not score until the top of the sixth inning. Woelfel would send a rocket into right field scoring
Madi Rowe and giving the WSU a 3-2 lead.
Winona State would hold onto their lead after a complete game from
Jayda Berg. Berg moves her record on the season to 14-2 while only giving up five hits.
Winona State will be in action next on Friday, April 10th at 1:00pm where they will face Wayne State College in a doubleheader.
