DULUTH, Minn. --- The Winona State Football team will look to keep its momentum going, traveling to nationally ranked Minnesota Duluth on Saturday, Sept. 19 at 4 p.m.
The Warriors are 1-2 (1-1 NSIC), following a 28-0 shutout win over Jamestown last weekend, marking WSU's first shutout win since 2016. The Bulldogs are 2-1 following a narrow 20-13 win at Wayne State last weekend.
Winona State Notes
- Winona State and Minnesota Duluth will face off for the eleventh time in program history on Saturday. The Warriors are 10-37 all-time against the Bulldogs and are looking for their first win against UMD since 2003.
- Captain QB Jackson Flottmeyer completed 15 of 23 passes for 155 yards and three touchdowns last week vs Jamestown.
- Sophomore RB Jahmani Muhammad led the Warriors on the ground with 17 rushing attempts for 101 yards and a touchdown on the ground and through the air.
- Sophomore WR Nolan Ginskey caught four passes for 66 yards on the day while adding two touchdowns for the Warriors.
- Fifth Year Linebacker Brent Jeske led the Warriors on the defensive side with five solo tackles and three assisted tackles.
- The Warriors' pass defense allowed just 49 passing yards, with Sophomore Jayden Schold having two pass breakups.
- This is the second season under the leadership of Head Coach Brian Curtin. Curtin, who has been a part of the Winona State football staff since 1997.
- The Warriors are now 1-1 in conference play and 1-2 on the season after their home opener win against Jamestown.
Minnesota Duluth Notes
- Minnesota Duluth enters the matchup as the No. 14 team in NCAA Division II in the AFCA Coaches Poll
- The Bulldogs held of Wayne State late in the contest last week, picking up a key NSIC road victory 20-13
- Jacob Eggert leads the passing attack, completing 45-of-67 passes for 520 yards and three touchdowns this season
- Fifth year running back Derrick Johnson has recorded 394 rushing yards on 42 attempts and three touchdowns this season
- Peyton Menzel leads the Bulldogs' receivers with 14 catches for 188 yards
- Fifth year linebacker Jayce Walrath has 22 tackles this season to lead UMD
- Curt Wiese is in his 13th season leading the Bulldogs and holds a 116-30 record
