WINONA, Minn. --- The Winona State soccer team faced Augustana on Sunday afternoon, falling 2-1 at Altra Federal Credit Union Stadium.
The Warriors fell to 0-8 (0-6 NSIC) with the loss, while the Vikings improved to 5-1-1 (3-3 NSIC) on the season.
Augustana held a 13-3 advantage in shots and recorded three corner kicks compared to Winona State's one.
Winona State and Augustana both looked to get its offenses' going early. Vikings Forward Laina Souerdyke took the first shot of the game at the 1:38 mark that was saved by
Abigail Rounds.
Kyleigh Jannisch took the first shot for the Warriors, but it was saved by Linnea Larson.
The Warriors and Vikings continued to battle early in the first half. At the 11:59 mark WSU's
Faith Quinn scored the first goal of the game that was assisted by Jannisch. AUG continued to search for an equalizer and at the 22:40 mark Madelyn White found the back of the net to tie the game. For the rest of the first half both teams were looking to take advantage, but the half ended 1-1.
Both teams had a slow start to the second half without being able to generate much offense. At the 76:40 mark
, Avery Heinz for AUG found the back of the net that gave the Vikings the lead. Shortly after, WSU's
Madison Barnick attempted to tie the game, but her shot was saved by Linnea.
For the remainder of the game both teams offenses' did not attempt a shot and the final score ended 2-1 with the Vikings claiming the victory.
