Travis Akre

Travis Akre has re-joined Winona State Baseball as an assistant coach after serving as Warrior Baseball’s graduate assistant in 2006 under coach Kyle Poock. Akre most recently was at Kent State University as the Director of Baseball Development in 2022 and as coach for the Lake Country Dockhounds in the American Association Professional Baseball League.

Prior to Kent State, Akre was at Ellsworth Community College in Iowa Falls, Iowa, where he spent the previous six seasons. He also served as the field manager for the Lakeshore Chinooks of the Northwoods League from 2018–2021. Coach Akre has coached 26 players who have been selected in the Major League Baseball Draft. He has also coached 42 players who have played professionally, including current New York Yankee Stephan Tarpley, Josh Taylor of the Red Sox, and current Atlanta Brave Daniel Winkler.

Akre also had a successful run as an assistant at Scottsdale Community College in Arizona, helping the Fighting Artichokes qualify for the NCJAA Division-II World Series in each of his two years on the staff. Other coaching stops include Ellsworth Community College as the head softball coach.

Akre holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Education and Exercise Science from Buena Vista University.
