Joey Nelson joined the coaching staff at Winona State in July, 2021. The Sioux Falls, S.D. native works primarily with the Warrior receiving corps.
Previously, Nelson served on the the St. Cloud State football coaching staff in 2019, where he was also tasked with coaching wide receivers. Nelson has also worked at Dakota State University in Madison, S.D., serving as the tight ends coach during the 2017 campaign. In addition, Nelson has been the wide receivers coach at Roosevelt High School in Sioux Falls, S.D. for seven years from 2010-2016 and again in 2018. He also was a wide receivers coach at Brookings (S.D.) High School between 2007 and 2009.
Nelson has mentored nine South Dakota Elite 45 selections, 14 All-State selections, 18 All-Conference selections and seven Academic All-State student-athletes. He played collegiate football at Dakota State, where he earned both his Bachelor and Masters degrees.
