Mitch Madland is in his eighth season with the Winona State football program, and is in his third campaign working with the team’s defensive line. Madland helped tutor defensive tackle Matt Ulrich to three All-NSIC selections. Ulrich earned a spot in the Minnesota Vikings’ rookie camp in 2011. He also helped tutor defensive end Lewis Johnson to all-league honors in both 2010 and 2011.

Madland is also the Associate Head Coach and Defensive Coordinator for the La Crosse Spartans of the Arena Football League. He played in the AFL for the La Crosse Nighttrain and later became the team’s defensive coordinator. He has also served as the defensive coordinator of the AFL’s Myrtle Beach Stingray. Madland also spent two seasons as the head coach at La Crescent (MN) High School.

Madland played college football at Winona State and was a member of the 1993 and 1994 teams that claimed conference titles.

Madland holds a degree in Professional Studies from Winona State and is currently pursuing his Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership and Sports Management from WSU.
