CROOKSTON, Minn. – The Winona State volleyball team recorded its seventh sweep of the season, improving to 12-3 on the year with a 3-0 road win over Minnesota Crookston Friday evening.
Redshirt freshman Taylor Goar was outstanding in the match, accumulating 15 kills on just 25 attempts while only committing two errors for a .520 hitting percentage. Goar also added seven digs to the stat sheet.
Goar and Danielle Rampart combined for 13 kills in the opening set to lead the Warriors to a 25-18 victory. WSU hit .267 in the opener while holding the Golden Eagles to a .176 clip.
The Warriors quickly jumped out to a 11-4 lead in the second set only to see UMC fight back to take seven of the next eight points to cut the lead to just one at 12-11. WSU would take over from there, however, going on a 13-6 run to close out the set with a 25-17 win and a 2-0 match lead.
WSU faced a tougher fight from the Golden Eagles in the third and final set, but eventually prevailed 27-25 after scoring the final six points of the match.
The Warriors hit a solid .297 as a team while holding UMC to just a .168 hitting percentage.
Rampart finished with a match-high in kills, recording 16 while also contributing seven digs to the defensive effort.
Lauren Kudronowicz made the most of her opportunities, finishing with six kills on 10 attempts for a .400 hitting percentage.
McKenna Larsen was the match leader in assists, dishing out 45, while defensively, Jamie Cairncross also recorded a match high with 20 digs.
Winona State (12-3, 7-2 NSIC) returns to action Saturday when it travels to Bemidji State to face the Beavers in a 4 p.m. matchup.
