WINONA, Minn. – The Winona State soccer team received late game heroics from senior
Shauna Rodman to down Minot State 1-0 Friday evening at a cold and windy Warrior Stadium.
Deadlocked in a scoreless tie for nearly the entire match, Rodman lined up for a free kick from 40 yards out in the 89th minute and watched the ball curve inside the left post and out of the reach of Minot State goalkeeper Celene Johnson for the game's only goal and the 1-0 victory.
Rodman put together an outstanding night, piling up seven shots with six of them landing on goal. Â
Alaina Kne recorded four shots for the Warriors, while
Kati Baker and
Nicole Sames each had a pair.
The win marks the third straight shutout and sixth of the season for freshman goalkeeper
Rachel Oleson.  Oleson was outstanding in front of the net, saving a career-high eight shots – including a trio of game-saving stops in the closing minutes of the match.
As a team, WSU outshot the Beavers 21-11 – while also holding a 10-8 advantage on shots on goal.  The Warriors also attempted five corner kicks in the match while the Beavers managed just one.
Winona State (8-1, 5-1 NSIC) returns to action Sunday morning when it welcomes the University of Mary to Warrior Stadium at 11 a.m.
