WINONA, Minn. – Mehan Bolton scored early to give the Winona State soccer team all the scoring it would need in a 1-0 victory over MSU Moorhead Saturday afternoon at Altra Federal Credit Union Stadium in Winona.
The Warriors got on the board in the 13th minute as Abby Bohanski fired a shot into the box that was saved by Dragon goalkeeper Ashley Leintz, but Mehan Bolton capitalized on the rebound and buried the shot to put the Warriors up 1-0, a goal that would turn out to be the game winner. The goal was Bolton's second straight game winner, as she scored the decisive double overtime goal last Sunday at U-Mary.
Despite the lone goal, the Warriors spent the majority of the afternoon in the offensive zone, peppering the Dragons with season-highs in both shots (34) and shots on goal (17).
The story was equally impressive for the WSU defense, holding MSUM to without a shot on goal until the 79th minute and without a second until under two minutes to play.
Bolton recorded match-highs for shots (8) and shots on goal (4), while Bohanski added four shots, three of which were on goal. Hayley Bach also posted both of her shots on goal. In total, 11 different Warriors had at least one shot on goal.
Rachel Oleson needed two make just the two saves to earn her sixth shutout of the season.
Winona State (8-3, 5-3 NSIC) returns to Altra Federal Credit Union Stadium Sunday afternoon for a 1 p.m. matchup against Northern State.
