Bolton Scores in 2 OT To Claim 1-0 Win Over U-Mary

BISMARCK, N.D. – Mehan Bolton scored just over a minute into the second overtime to give the Winona State soccer team a 1-0 victory over the University of Mary Sunday afternoon.

Deadlocked in a scoreless tie for the first 100 minutes of play, the Warriors finally broke through early in the second overtime when the Warriors got a break after Mary's goalkeeper Bailey Wenz collided with Abby Bohanski on a would-be breakaway. The result was a red card on Wenz that gave the Warriors a penalty kick and forced Kelsey Ekstedt to come in to replace her in goal.

Bolton took the penalty kick, but Ekstedt made the save to momentarily keep the tie intact. But Bolton stuck with the play and kicked home the rebound to give the Warriors the win and salvage the weekend road split.

WSU goalkeeper Rachel Oleson, who gave up a career-high four goals Saturday, responded with her fifth shutout of the season. Oleson was not called upon much in the match, needing to make just one save to earn the win.

Bolton led the Warriors with game-highs in shots on goal (3) and shots (5). Mikaella Sabinash had a pair of shots on goal, while Hayley Bach, Chase Rehm and MacKenzie Challoner each had one.

The Warriors held a 17-7 shots advantage in the match and an 8-1 edge in shots on goal.

Winona State (7-3, 4-3) returns home to Altra Federal Credit Union Stadium next weekend when it hosts MSU Moorhead and Northern State on Saturday and Sunday for a pair of 1 p.m. matches.
