HOUSTON – The Winona State baseball team fell to Henderson State 5-0 on the final day of the 2015 Houston Winter Invitational Sunday afternoon at Minute Maid Park.
WSU quickly fell behind as the Reddies had a leadoff double followed by an RBI single off WSU starter Lucas Crimmins to take a 1-0 lead. HSU then added four more runs in the second inning to take a 5-0 lead, which would be all Henderson State would need to record the victory.
Crimmins settled down after the first two innings, giving up just one hit over the next three scoreless innings. The Warrior bullpen was then strong in relief, as the trio of Jay Voter, Mitchell Stalsberg and Mitch Voter pitched four scoreless innings while giving up just four hits and walking just two while Mitch Voter struck out a pair of Reddies.
The Warriors managed six hits in the game, including a pair from leadoff hitter Michael Hommes.
Winona State (0-4) is scheduled to be back in action next weekend for a pair of doubleheaders against Southwest Baptist on Saturday and Wisconsin-Parkside on Sunday in Bolivar, Missouri.
