KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The Winona State volleyball team made it a perfect weekend at the Rockhurst Volleyball Classic, recording another pair of 3-0 sweeps over Christian Brothers and Henderson State Saturday in Kansas City.
The Warriors swept all four of its opponents in the tournament by 3-0 scores to improve to 6-1 for the second straight season. Lauren Kudronowicz and McKenna Larsen were both selected to the eight-team All-Tournament team.
Winona State easily handled Christian Brothers in the morning opener, coming away with a 25-11, 25-12, 25-20 victory. WSU outhit the Lady Bucs .329 to .057.
Danielle Rampart led the Warriors with 10 kills while hitting a very strong .500 for the match with just one error on 18 attack attempts. Taylor Goar tallied eight kills on 19 attempts with two errors for a solid .316 percentage.
Larsen had 14 assists in the match, while Goar and freshman Summer Larson led the Warriors with seven digs apiece.
The Warriors breezed through their second opponent of the day with equal ease, dispatching of Henderson State 25-13, 25-22, 25-15. The only threat to the Warriors came in the second set, when the Warriors saw a 23-17 slip away after five straight points from the Reddies to cut it to one point at 23-22, but a kill from Kudronowicz and an HSU error allowed the Warriors to close out the game and cruise to a win in the third set.
The outside hitting tandem of Goar (13) and Maria Fruechte (12) combined for 25 kills and hit .407 and .409, respectively. Allison Persick led all setters with 20 assists, while Goar – who recorded a double-double – and Jamie Cairncross each led all players with 11 digs apiece.
Winona State (6-1) opens NSIC play next week, traveling to Minnesota State for a 7 p.m. matchup Thursday before playing its home opener Saturday at 4 p.m. when it hosts Concordia-St. Paul in McCown Gymnasium.
