No. 18 Warriors Drop First Match of Season To Augustana, 1-0

WINONA, Minn. – The No. 18 Winona State soccer team dropped its first match of the season Sunday afternoon, falling to Augustana 1-0 at Altra Federal Credit Union Stadium.

The Vikings' Meg Thacker scored the only goal of the game and her first of the season in the 53rd minute off a pass from Hannah Keirstad that went over the reach of WSU goalkeeper Rachel Oleson for the 1-0 lead, a score that would hold up.

The Warriors and Augustana were in a defensive battle throughout the game, but especially in the first half, when the two teams combined for just three shots on goal in the first 45 minutes. Abby Bohanski had two of them for the Warriors on a pair of headers that forced Augustana goalkeeper Taylor Machacek to make tough saves and deny her bid for a sixth goal in six games.

The Warriors had six shots on goal for the game, with Kenzie Rose joining Bohanski with two, while Mehan Bolton and Hayley Bach each posted one. Augustana also had six shots on goal.

Winona State (5-1, 2-1 NSIC) will spend the next two weekends on the road, beginning with matchups against St. Cloud State and Augustana next Saturday and Sunday.
