LA CROSSE, Wis. – The Winona State gymnastics team posted its best score of the season but fell to UW-La Crosse 189.125-185.375 Friday night in La Crosse.
The Warriors – who beat the defending national champion Eagles in an exhibition in McCown Gym in December – had an outstanding effort on the vault, with a score of 47.325 topping UW-L's mark of 47.200. WSU's score in the event was tied for the fourth-best mark in program history.
Jade Donaldson led the Warriors on the vault with a 9.625 to place second overall. Emily Goldeman added a 9.600, while Eboni Jackson recorded a 9.425, Natalie Koehler a 9.350 and Taylor Lewis a 9.325.
Jackson won the balance beam title with a 9.475, while Cassidy Kleven scored a 9.325, Brooke Hiestand added a 9.2, Koehler a 9.150 and Katie Carling a 9.1.
Donaldson also turned in a great effort on the floor exercise, scoring a 9.625 to finish third. Carling finished with a 9.425, while Jackson earned a 9.350 and Alyssa Carroll added a 9.225.
Katie Pipp led the Warriors on the bars with a 9.375, while Carling had a 9.150, Donaldson a 9.075 and Jackson an even 9.0.
Winona State heads back to La Crosse next Friday for the annual Gershon Invitational at 6:30 p.m.
