Five Set Thriller Goes Way of Warriors

WINONA, Minn. - Winona State (17-3, 8-3 NSIC) picked up their second straight win over a top-ten opponent with a dramatic 3-2 win over #6 Augustana (18-3, 9-2 NSIC). It was the Warriors second win over the Vikings this season. The five set victory kept the Warriors right in the middle of the NSIC race.
 
Danielle Rampart had 20 kills to lead the Warriors, one shy of her season high. Taylor Goar added 13 kills to go along with 22 digs. McKenna Larsen finished the evening with 52 assists to lead the Warriors past Augustana. Jamie Cairncross finished with 24 digs, and continues to lead the Warriors in digs this season.
 
Four Warrior attackers finished the evening in double digits on the night. Maria Wrage had a great night, hitting .417 and finishing with a season high 13 kills. Lauren Kudronowicz had 12 kills to go along with five block assists.
 
Winona State started hot, scoring the first five points of the match. The lead would grow to seven and Augustana never recovered. The Warriors would go on to win the set 25-17.
 
The Vikings and Warriors battled back and forth in the second set but a 5-1 run by Augustana gave them a 17-13 edge. Winona State got a close as three but Augustana held on for a 25-19 victory.
 
Augustana put the Warriors on the brink of defeat with a 25-19 set three win. A 6-2 run in the middle of the set was the difference.
 
Set four was much like the second set as both teams battled back and forth. Winona State took a four-point advantage at 19-15 with three straight points. The Warriors would pull away for a six-point victory.
 
In the fifth and deciding set Winona State took a 10-6 lead and held on for a 15-11 win after a kill from Goar.
