BAYAMON, PUERTO RICO – Winona State (0-1) fell in their season opener to Puerto Rico-Bayamon 61-57, despite 21 points from
Tara Roelofs. The Warriors were unable to match the 12 three's hit by Bayamon on the night. The game featured just 13 combined foul shots.
Hannah McGlone added eight points and 12 rebounds, including six offensive rebounds.
Liz Evenocheck had seven points off the bench and
Kayla Schaefer added six.
The Warriors started well but Bayamon was able to come back and took a ten-point lead midway through the second quarter. Winona State would get as close as four but at the end of three Bayamon led by ten. Late in the game the Warriors rallied, pulling with three with three minutes left after a three from Roelofs, but Bayamon would hang on for the victory.
