WINONA, Minn. – The Winona State gymnastics team had first place finishers in each event and did just enough to score a narrow 183.125-182.425 victory over visiting Wisconsin-Oshkosh Tuesday night inside McCown Gymnasium.
The Warriors recorded their best performance of the season on the floor exercise in the final rotation, scoring a 47.275 and claiming the top three spots as the Warriors rallied from 136.800-135.850 deficit after three rotations to earn the victory. Katie Carling turned in an impressive, personal-best score of 9.600 to win the event, while Brooke Hiestand scored a 9.550 and Veronica Peterson added a 9.500. Jade Donaldson finished fifth with a 9.425 and Jessica Gabriel had a 9.200.
WSU also turned in a strong showing on the vault with a 47.200, the 10th best vault score in program history. Donaldson won the event with a 9.575 and Taylor Lewis took second with a 9.550. Eboni Jackson finished fourth with a 9.450 and Brooke Hiestand added a score of 9.375, followed by Natalie Koehler with a 9.250.
The top three spots on the uneven bars also went to the Warriors, as Katie Pipp scored an event-winning 9.400, Olivia Cattelino finished with a 9.375 and Carling added a 9.200. Koehler took home top honors on the balance beam with a 9.550.
Winona State is back in action Friday, traveling to Normal, Illinois to take on the Illinois State Redbirds at 7 p.m.
