Box Score KENOSHA, Wis. – The #21 Winona State Warriors started 2016 off on the right foot, beating Wisconsin-Parkside in straight sets (25-13, 25-22, 25-18). The Warriors hit .296 as a team while holding Parkside to just .082 hitting.
Taylor Goar led the way with 15 kills and a .333 attack percentage.
Danielle Rampart had ten kills and finished with a .400 attack percentage.
Midway through the first set the Warriors started to assert themselves, using a 9-1 run to take a 19-11 lead. Winona State would go on to win the first set 25-13 after holding Parkside to -0.028 hitting. Goar led the way in the first set with seven kills.
Winona would continue to terminate the ball at a high level in the second set. They jumped out to an 8-2 lead and never let UWP get any closer than three. Wisconsin-Parkside tried to rally late, closing to within three at 20-17 after a 6-0 run. The Warriors would hold off the late rally and take the set 25-22.
After the second set Winona was hitting .359 as a team. Goar had 11 kills through the first two sets. Goar and
McKenna Larsen had eight digs through two sets, tying for the team lead.
A 6-2 run early in the third set gave WSU an 11-6 lead as they looked to close out the match. They would extend their lead to 15-7 midway through the set. The Warriors would hold on for the 25-18 victory in set three.
The Warriors are back in action tomorrow at 9:30 a.m. against Lake Superior State. They will then play West Virginia State at 2:30 p.m.
