SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – It was another perfect weekend for the Winona State volleyball as they completed a 4-0 weekend with sweeps of Southern Indiana and Augustana on Saturday. The Warriors (9-0) are now 27 for 29 in sets this year. They have not lost the first or second set all year, going 18-0.
Winona State had no problem with Southern Indiana for the second straight day, winning 25-12, 25-16, 25-16. The Warriors hit a season best .344 with just nine errors in 96 attempts. Winona State started the match with an 8-1 run and never looked back. The Warriors did trail in the third set to USI but finished the match on a 15-4 run to complete the sweep.
The Warriors looked to stay perfect as they took on NSIC member Augustana in a non-conference matchup. Augustana threated to take the first set from the Warriors but a 5-0 run late gave Winona State a 23-17 lead. They would hang on to win 25-20. The second set went back and forth early as both teams went on mini run after mini run. The Warriors would kill off a set point at 25-24 before taking the set at 29-27, after missing the chance to close it out on two previous set points. With the momentum after the second set victory, Winona State would control a majority of the third set and earned the sweep with a 25-18 victory.
