WINONA, Minn. – The Winona State Warriors (3-1) were down 2-1 until the 89
th minute, when freshman
Courtney Wiencek and sophomore
Abby Bohanski would both score to complete the comeback victory. Bohanski scored her first two goals of the season in the win.
The Warriors took seven shots in the first half.
Meg Riebau and
Kendyl Keay each had a shot on goal, while Wiencek contributed three. At the end of the half, the score was tied 0-0.
The Warriors would add seven more shots on goal in the second half. Bohanski scored her first goal of the season in the 55
th minute to make the score 1-0. Ferris State would even the score with a goal from Mandy Paull in the 69
th minute.
Alexis Schodowski would score the go-ahead goal in the 81
st minute for the Bulldogs with the hopes to seal the deal, but the Warriors would prove resilient.
Eight minutes later
Alyssa Reynolds would fire the ball up field between two Bulldogs and ahead of
Courtney Wiencek. Wiencek would then kick the ball out of reach for the Bulldog keeper, finding the back of the net to tie the game 2-2.
Riebau, 38 seconds later, would kick the ball high into the air and ahead of Bohanski, who would race shoulder to shoulder with a Bulldog defender to take her shot. Beating the defender, Bohanski kicked the ball into the leg of the outstretched keeper Allison Chesterfield and it rolled in for the score.
Jourdan Valkner allowed two goals in the match, but did get her first victory as a Warrior.
The Warriors will host a pair of games next weekend facing Bemidji State Friday at 7 p.m. and Minnesota Crookston on Sunday at 12 p.m.
