WINONA, Minn. – Winona State (3-2, 0-2 NSIC) women's soccer team found themselves in a hole Friday night, down by three goals at the end of the first half. The second half saw more aggression and hope, but to no avail as they came away with a 3-2 loss to Bemidji State (4-1, 2-0 NSIC).
An assist from Rachael Norton would lead to the first Bemidji State goal by Bayley Ertl goal in the 4
th minute.
Raquel Thelen and Emma Brechlin would score the second and third Beaver goals in the 29
th and 30
th minutes.
Winona State was only able to earn three corner kicks in the first half. Seniors
Kenzie Rose and
Meg Riebau both had shots as did
Abby Bohanski and
Darian Molter. Bohanski had the only shot on goal in the half.
Bohanski would breathe life into the Warrior offense in the 50
th minute as she was able to get her first goal of the night from a
Meg Riebau corner kick.
Freshman
Justice Menge would receive a yellow card late in the second half, but the Warriors kept pushing.
A shot from
Courtney Wiencek, bounced off the crossbar and back into play. A header from Bohanski would produce the Warriors' second goal of the night in the 78
th minute.
Five games in, Bohanski leads the Warriors in scoring so far with four goals.
Both Warrior goalkeepers would have a save on the night but Oleson surrendered three first half goals.
The Warriors will host Minnesota Crookston (2-3, 1-1 NSIC) on Sunday for a 12p.m. start at Maxwell Field.
