ST. PAUL, Minn. – The #1 Concordia-St. Paul Golden Bears (10-0, 2-0 NSIC) ended the #9 Winona State Warriors (10-1, 1-1 NSIC) ten match winning streak with a 25-17, 25-21, 25-9 victory. The Warriors were unable to stop the Concordia offense, which hit .400 in the match.
Winona State was held to just 31 kills on the afternoon, and had 23 errors in the loss. Concordia held an 11-0 advantage in blocks.
Lauren Kudronowicz was able to hit .333 with eight kills to lead an offense that hit .075 on Saturday.
The Warriors stuck with the top-ranked Golden Bears early in the match. Midway through the first set Concordia took a six point lead at 17-11 and Winona State was unable to recover. The Warriors did cut the deficit to three but four straight points gave CSP a 25-17 win.
The Golden Bears seemed poised to run away from the Warriors in the second set, leading 15-9 but the Warriors mounted a comeback. A 10-4 run tied the set at 19 but with the score deadlocked at 21, CSP did what they did in set one to take it 25-21.
After the break between set two and three the Golden Bears jumped on the Warriors, taking an 8-2 lead out of the gate. They would never look back and Winona State was unable to slow them down, falling 25-9 in the final set.
QUICK HITTERS:
- It was the lowest hitting night of the season for Winona State, and lowest since Oct. 3, 2014 against UMD.
- Saturday was the first time all year WSU failed to win the first and second sets.
