COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The Winona State gymnastics team fell 190.875-184.750 to the Air Force Academy, in their opening competition of the season. The Warriors were led by first, second and third places finishes from
Kelly Johnston,
Eboni Jackson and
Kennedy Utz.
Freshman
Kelly Johnston won the beam event with a score of 9.625 in her first action as a Warrior.
Eboni Jackson placed second on the event with a score of 9.575. Freshman Sunny Hasebe tied for fourth place with a score of 9.500.
Alyssa Carroll scored a 9.425,
Katie Carling landed a 9.400 mark and
Miranda Saathoff scored 8.000
Katie Pipp scored a 9.575 for the Warriors on the uneven parallel bars and
Katie Carling added a score of 9.075. Sunny Hasebe scored 8.650, Liz Maher scored 7.200 and
Hannah Norman scored 6.650.
Kennedy Utz tied for fourth place in the vault by scoring 9.475 and
Leah Messelt added a score of 9.400.
Alana Currin scored a 9.300,
Megan Tran scored 9.250 and
Samia Taylor scored a 9.100.
Kennedy Utz placed third to lead the Warriors on the floor exercise with a 9.725.
Alyssa Carroll scored 9.675,
Megan Tran scored a 9.500,
Alana Currin scored 9.050 and
Leah Messelt rounded out the event with 8.925.
Eboni Jackson finished second in the all-around competition with a total of 36.950. She scored 9.325 on the vault, 8.500 on the uneven parallel bars, 9.575 on the beam and 9.550 on the floor.
The Warriors are back in action at home on January 13
th as they host Gustavus Adolphus College in McCown Gym.
