Warriors shut out in home finale by Golden Bears

WINONA, Minn. – Winona State saw its two-game winning streak snapped on Friday night as Concordia, St. Paul came away with a 1-0 victory, spoiling the Warriors' regular season home finale.

It marked the first time WSU had been blanked by an opponent in over a month.

The Golden Bears netted what proved to be the golden goal early in the first half. Jordan Rowan-Stafford took CSP's first three shots of the contest, and found the back of the net on her third attempt in the 12th minute of action.

Rachel Oleson was busy in goal for Winona as CSP owned the possession advantage in the first half with an 8-3 shot count. All totaled, the Golden Bears got off 14 shots, including eight on target, and Oleson recorded seven saves in the tough-luck loss.

WSP was held to eight shots with just three landing on target.

The Warriors had a chance to knot the score late with a scrum in front of the net, and got off two shots, but both were blocked in heavy traffic before the CSP keeper finally corralled the ball.

WSU was whistled for seven fouls on the night, issued four yellow cards and a pair of reds.

Winona falls to 9-7-1 (8-5-1 NSIC) while the loss while CSP improves to 10-6-1 (8-5-1 NSIC) and moves in front of WSU in the conference standings with the tie-breaker.

The Warriors conclude the regular season on Sunday at No. 20 Minnesota State. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. in Mankato.
