WINONA, Minn. – The Winona State women's soccer team fell 1-0 to Michigan Tech in their first home match of the year on Friday night at Altra Federal Credit Union Stadium.
The Huskies Sarah Boyd scored the only goal of the night in the 46th minute on a shot inside the left post, assisted by Emily Zeitunian.
Shots in the contest were pretty even. The Warriors edged the Huskies in total shots, 17 to 16, but Winona had more quality shots on goal leading in that category 14 to 9.
Darian Molter,
Justice Menge, and
Abby Bohanski all had chances at goals throughout the game. Bohanski came the closest midway through the second when Kirsen Hudak stopped a point blank shot right in front of the net.
"We did everything right to create the chances to score, but just couldn't find the back of the net," said head coach
Dustin Beckman. "I think the loss will serve as a catalyst for our girls heading into Sunday's game. By cleaning up a little more on the technical side, we will start seeing more positive results."
The Warriors (0-1, 0-0 NSIC) continue their non-conference schedule this Sunday by hosting Northern Michigan (0-1, 0-1 GLIAC) University in a 12 p.m. matinee.
