Winona State nets first win of 2017 season

WINONA, Minn. – Darian Molter netted a pair of goals on Sunday afternoon at Altra Federal Credit Union Stadium as Winona State University toppled Northern Michigan University, 4-1.

Molter registered five points on the day as she assisted on the first goal of the contest in the 17th minute of the first half. Abby Bohanski's header in the box, off a far side pass from Molter, counted as the Warriors' opening tally.

WSU took a 1-0 lead into halftime and shortly after the break, Molter headed a loose ball in front of the keeper to pad the Warrior lead to 2-0. Justice Menge assisted on the score.

The Wildcats answered less than three minutes later, cutting their deficit to 2-1 at the 52-minute mark of action.

Winona went on to score two unanswered goals to seal the victory. A precise pass from Taylor Richards found Alyssa Reynolds racing towards the box who proceeded to beat the keeper on a feet-first slide from the five-yard line.

Molter tacked on her second goal of the game on a great unassisted effort off her own rebound.

Rachel Oleson picked up the win in goal for Winona, recording four saves. Raven Ferry-LeClair took over in net for the final 11 minutes of play and recorded one save.

Winona uncorked 19 total shots in the victory, including 10 on goal.

Winona State (1-1) opens NSIC play next week at home against Upper Iowa University. Game time is slated for 7 p.m. on Thursday, September 9.
