WINONA, Minn. – No. 4 Central Missouri shutout the Winona State University women's soccer team, 4-0, on Sunday afternoon at Altra Federal Credit Union Stadium.
Central Missouri has yet to surrender a goal this season and improved to 4-0. Winona State falls to 1-2-1 after being shutout for the second consecutive game.
"We knew this would be a tough opponent, but I don't think the score reflected the way we played today," said head coach Dustin Beckman. "Their first three goals were scored off our own mistakes, and once we cleaned those up at halftime, we limited their opportunities."
The Jennies scored three of their four goals in the first half of play. Each goal was nearly 10 minutes apart with the first strike finding the back of the net at the 10:42 mark of action.
Central Missouri owned a 16-9 advantage in total shots with 10 of their balls landing on target. The Warriors put six of their nine shots on goal. Four of Winona's six shots in the second half were on target with the home team trailing after halftime.
Makayla Toth recorded five points for Central Missouri with two goals and one assist in the win.
Rachel Oleson suffered the loss in net for Winona. The senior corralled six saves, including five in the second half.
The Warriors resume NSIC play next Saturday at the University of Minnesota-Crookston with a 1 p.m. kickoff.
