Late Match Heartbreak at The Hands of The Vikings

Sioux Falls, SD– Winona State University suffers a late, heartbreaking 1-0 loss Sunday afternoon to the Vikings of Augustana University.

The two teams played a scoreless first half registering a combined 13 shots on goal. Seven by Winona, six by Augustana. In the 85th minute, Viking defender Rebekah Thoresen beat Warrior goalkeeper Rachel Oleson on a header inside the 6 yard box to take the lead.

Winona's best scoring chance came in 32nd minute of the first half off of a shot by Alyssa Reynolds that hit the post and found its way to Abby Bohanski who had two consecutive shots blocked.

The Warriors were only able to get three of their dozen total shots on goal today, while Augustana managed to get 10 of 20 through to the Winona goalkeeper.

Oleson recorded nine saves today, but suffered her fourth loss of the season.

Winona State falls to 3-4-1 (2-2-1 NSIC) on the season while Augustana improves to 5-1-2 (4-0-1 NSIC).

The Warriors return to Maxwell Field on Friday night for a 7 p.m. game against the Bulldogs from the University of Minnesota Duluth.
