No. 11 Augustana runs past Winona State women

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – Winona State suffered its fourth straight loss Saturday night as No. 11 Augustana won its 17th game of the season in a 91-71 victory over the Warriors.

Winona dropped its four straight games since the 2013-14 season.

Allie Pickrain lead a host of Warriors in double figures as she dropped a career-high 22 points on 7-of-22 from the field, and 6-of-16 from beyond the arc. Hannah McGlone (11), Liz Evenocheck (10) and Emily Kieck (10) rounded out tonight's top scorers.

The Vikings demonstrated why they are nationally ranked as they made their first seven shots from the field, jumping out to an early 18-5 lead over the Warriors. As the first half progressed, Augustana continued to stretch their lead, until Winona State found some momentum.

Poor shooting and sloppy defense by the Vikings gave Winona State the opportunity to climb its way back into the game. With 5:38 left in the first half, Evenocheck knocked down a three-pointer that sparked a 21-6 run by the Warriors that cut the Viking lead from 19 points back to four at the break

Coming out of the break, Auggie regained the momentum as they went on an 11-0 run to start the third quarter. The Warriors couldn't find enough answers as they shot 1-of-10 to start the half and never recovered, only coming as close as14 points the remainder of the game.

The balanced attack from the Vikings proved to be too much for the Warriors. Augustana (52%) outshot the Winona State (36%) from the field, and also won the battle down low, outscoring the Warriors 40-22 on points in the paint.

The Warriors will look to get back on track next weekend at Minot State and U-Mary. Friday night's tip-off against the Beavers is scheduled for 6 p.m.
