WINONA, Minn. – Winona State University head women's basketball coach Scott Ballard has announced the addition of four student-athletes to the Warriors' 2019 recruiting class.
Signing their official National Letters of Intent with Winona State are Alexandra Dornfeld, Taylor Fautsch, Caitlin Riley and Ava Sergio.
"We are very excited about our incoming 2019 class and what each of these players bring to the table," Ballard said. "All four of them are hard-working individuals who have been successful academically and athletically during their careers. Each are also high-character people and tough competitors with skill sets that will fit our culture and team chemistry very well."
Alexandra Dornfeld
· 5-11 Forward
· Markesan High School/Wisconsin
· Averaged 18 points and 10 rebounds per game as a junior
· Three-time First Team All-Conference (Trailways West)
· Conference Player of the Year as a junior
· Member of the track and volleyball team
Coach's Comments: "Alex is a versatile and talented player that can play multiple positions on the perimeter and inside. She is a great competitor that can score inside and outside, and will be impactful with her ability to defend and rebound."
Taylor Fautsch
· 6-1 Forward
· John Marshall High School/Rochester, Minnesota
· Averaged 8.2 points and 6 rebounds per game as a junior
· Three-time All-Conference (Big 9) Honorable Mention
· Two-year team captain
Coach's Comments: "Taylor is a tough competitor that will give us much-needed depth in the post. She is a strong defender and rebounder, and a good high post shooter with great court vision to find her teammates."
Caitlin Riley
· 5-8 Guard
· George Washington High School/Cedar Rapids, Iowa
· Averaged 13 points, 3.7 rebounds, 3.6 steals and 3 assists, shot 80% FT as a junior
· Two-time All-Conference (Mississippi Valley) Honorable Mention
· Two-time All-Metro Honorable Mention
· Iowa Basketball Coaches Association All-Region Team
Coach's Comments: "Caitlin is a talented shooter and scorer who can play both at the point and shooting guard positions. She is a tremendous playmaker that has the ability to make everyone around her better."
Ava Sergio
· 6-1 Center
· Batavia High School/Geneva, Illinois
· Averaged 10 points, 8 rebounds and 6 blocks per game as a junior
· All-Area (Fox Valley) Honorable Mention
· All-Conference (Upstate)
· Two-year team captain
Coach's Comment: "Ava will provide depth to our post and give us a shot-blocker and low post presence with an ability to score and pass from the high post as well. She is a psychical player that plays with good basketball IQ."
