LA CROSSE, Wis. – Winona State University suffered its first head-to-head loss on Friday in a gymnastics' dual at the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse. La Crosse swept all four events and won by a score of 190.1-184.625.
Freshman Anna Hiller had one of her best all-around meets of the season. Hiller tied for second overall on the uneven parallel bars with a new season-high score of 9.55. Katie Carling also set a new high score for the season (9.4) while placing fourth. Emily Woitchek competed on bars for the first time this year and placed 10th with a score of 8.75.
Kelly Johnston led the Warriors with a third-place finish on the balance beam with a score of 9.5. Hiller notched her second-best score of the season in the event with a 9.3 to place sixth. Miranda Saathoff (9.175) and Carling (9.125) placed seventh and eighth, respectively. Sunny Hasebe compete on beam for the first time this year and scored an 8.9 to finish 10th.
Breanna Murray recorded Winona's top score on floor exercise, placing sixth overall with a 9.45. Woitchek (9.35) and Megan Tran (9.325) were next at seventh and eighth place, each recording new season highs in the event.
Alana Currin's sixth-place score of 9.4 on the vault was her second-best of the year and was good for sixth overall at the meet. Hiller finished seventh with a score of 9.375. Leah Messelt (9.35) and Kennedy Utz placed eighth and ninth for Winona.
The Warriors host UW-Eau Claire on Thursday in their final home meet of the season. Gymnasts will take the floor at 6:30 p.m. in McCown Gymnasium.
