WINONA, Minn. – The Winona State University gymnastics team closed the home portion of its schedule on a high note with a 183.325-182.125 victory over the University Wisconsin-Eau Claire Thursday night in McCown Gymnasium.
The Warriors improved to 3-1 in head-to-head duals this season against their conference opponents.
Winona State shined in the floor exercise in its home finale, claiming four of the top five places, including a first-place finish for Kennedy Utz (9.55). Ashley Wright came in second place with a season-best score of 9.525. Leah Messelt finished fourth (9.475) while Emily Woitchek's season-high score of 9.375 was good for fifth place.
Anna Hiller also claimed a first-place finish for the Warriors on the balance beam (9.175). Miranda Saathoff (9.0), Katie Carling (8.975) and Kelly Johnston (8.85) placed fourth through sixth on beam, respectively.
Carling had her best finish of the night on the uneven parallel bars, scoring a 9.375 for third place. Hiller (9.325), Shelsea Zehr (9.15) and Sunny Hasebe (9.1) placed fourth through sixth. Woitchek tallied her second season-high score of the meet with a seventh-place finish at 8.925.
Alana Currin rounded out Winona's top finishers on the vault, placing third with a score of 9.375.
The Warriors travel to Gustavus Adolphus College next Friday for their final dual of the season before the conference championships and regional meet scheduled for March 4th.
