MINNETONKA, Minn. – Winona State University had its postseason run cut short on Sunday afternoon in the semifinals of the NSIC Tournament. Minnesota State University avenged a regular season loss to the Warriors by defeating Winona State in the second round of the postseason tournament, 5-3.
Tayla Card and Kali Hackmann concluded the season with a doubles record of 12-1 after posting yet another victory in Sunday's semifinals. The duo's win at doubles No. 3 was the lone victory for the Warriors though as WSU entered singles action in a 2-1 hole.
With Moorhead's lead at 3-1, Kendra Kappes picked up a dominant 6-0, 6-2 win at singles No. 4 to bring the team score back to 3-2. The Dragons stretched their lead again at 4-2 before Justine Daane kept the Warriors in it with a 2-6, 6-0, 6-0 win at singles No. 3.
Moorhead would seal its team victory when Rachel Gantz dropped a competitive contest at singles No. 2, 6-2, 4-6, 3-6.
Winona State's season comes to an end with a record of 14-3 (10-1 NSIC). The Warriors' senior class of Daane, Gantz and Lauren Willkom posted back-to-back 14-win seasons.
Hackmann, who joined the team for her senior season, was dominant on the court with a singles record of 15-1 in 2018.
