Warriors blanked by Golden Bears in Sunday matinee

ST. PAUL, Minn. – Winona State University suffered its third straight loss Sunday afternoon in a tightly-contested 1-0 setback at Concordia-St. Paul. The teams combined to put just eight shots on goal with the Golden Bears finding the back of the net early in the second half.

CSP held a slight 7-5 edge in total shots in the scoreless first half. The Golden Bears had a couple chances in front of the net in the 22nd minute, but keeper Jourdan Valkner and the Warrior defenders halted the flurry of shot attempts to keep the home team off the scoreboard.

Both of Winona's shots on goal in the first half were corralled by the Golden Bear keeper. The Warriors uncorked nine total shots in the second half of action, but once again the two shots on target from Abby Bohanski and Addie Royer were each halted.

Concordia broke the scoreless tie just three minutes after halftime on a shot that snuck by Valkner in the bottom right corner of the net.

Bridget Doran played all 90 minutes on defense for the Warriors, having played the duration for three of WSU's four game this season.

Valkner faced 15 total shots, recording three saves on the four attempts that landed on target.

The Warriors fall to 1-3 (1-2 NSIC) on the year while Concordia-St. Paul remains unbeaten at 5-0 (2-0 NSIC).

Winona State returns to Altra Federal Credit Union Stadium on Friday to open a two-game weekend homestand against Minnesota Crookston at 3 p.m.
