Warriors shut out at home by No. 12 Bemidji State

WINONA, Minn. – Winona State University was blanked for the second time this season on Sunday afternoon as No. 12 Bemidji State continued its undefeated campaign with a 2-0 victory at Altra Federal Credit Union Stadium.

The Warriors hung with the high-powered Beaver offense for most of the contest. BSU held a slight shot advantage at 14-10. Both sides ended the day testing the opposing goalkeeper with six shots apiece.

From the first touch, both teams played an even match battling to gain position in the oppositions end. Bemidji State was able to get of a barrage of shots in the early minutes, but came away empty. The Warriors spread out a trio of shots in the first half, but Beaver goalkeeper, Anna Fobbe, was able to get a mitt on each of them.

Bemidji State forward Allyson Smith finally beat WSU goalkeeper Jourdan Valkner in a scrum close to the net in the 31st minute to break the scoring seal.

As the second half commenced, the Beavers turned up the offensive pressure and tested the Winona State defense. Valker stopped a few early shots by Bemidji State, but the persistent Beavers found the back of the net once again with an insurance goal to pad their lead with under 10 minutes left in regulation.

WSU junior Bridget Doran had a couple opportunities on fee kicks to tie the match at one before Bemidji State scored their second goal, but she was turned away on the first attempt and missed the second one high over the cross bar.

Doran, Courtney Wiencek and Chase Rehm each came away with two shots apiece in the match.

Valkner made four saves on six Beaver attempts in the setback.

Winona State falls to 1-4-1 (1-3-1 NSIC) while Bemidji State remains perfect this year at 8-0 (5-0 NSIC).

The Warriors will hit the road for a pair of games next weekend beginning with a matchup at Northern State on Friday at 3 p.m.
