MINOT, N.D. – Winona State University extended its season-best winning streak to three straight matches with a 3-1 victory at Minot State University on Friday night. Taylor Goar downed 13 kills to move into seventh place all-time in program history (1,144).
Cori Meyers floored 15 kills as Winona State improves to 7-9 (4-4 NSIC). The Warriors snapped Minot State's three-match winning streak and leapfrogged the Beavers (9-8, 3-5 NSIC) in the conference standings.
WSU posted the win by set scores of 25-20, 25-23, 23-25, 25-16.
The improved Beavers battled the Warriors in each of the first two sets before extending the match with a set three victory. Six different players account for a match-high 17 kills in Winona State's fourth set win to dispose of Minot State.
The Warriors hit over .300 for just the second time this season and the first time since opening weekend. Defensively, WSU recorded double digit blocks for the third straight match.
Winona State also found success at the service line, totaling seven kills as the Warriors continued to excel in all facets during their current stretch of four wins in five matches. Taylor Goar put down a season-best five aces. Meyers and Alexis Bass recorded one ace apiece.
Meyers posted a career-best .400 hitting percentage while committing just one attacking error. Fellow freshman Paige Christopher also recorded a season-high .538 hitting percentage with eight kills.
Megan Flom floored 11 kills and led the team with five blocks.
Bre Maloney tallied her ninth double-double of the year with 46 assists and 12 digs.
The Warriors have a quick turnaround and conclude their weekend road trip at UMary on Saturday morning at 11 a.m. seeking their fourth straight triumph.
