ABERDEEN, S.D. – Coming off a monumental win over No. 5 Concordia, St. Paul earlier this week, No. 20 Winona State University was unable to knock off another top-10 opponent on Friday night as the Warriors were swept on the road at No. 6 Northern State University.
WSU dropped the match by set scores of 23-25, 19-25, 19-25.
Winona State falls to 14-4 (6-4 NSIC) while the Wolves of Northern State improve to 16-2 (9-1 NSIC) and remain unbeaten on their home court (5-0).
Megan Flom (10) reached double digits in kills for the eighth consecutive match and recorded another impressive .435 attacking percentage without committing any errors, but the junior's effort wasn't enough this time.
The Warriors hit .202 collectively on the night but were stuffed at the net seven times and saw the Wolves recorded an impressive 62 digs. Northern State hit .339 in the victory.
The Wolves opened up a 4-0 lead in the first set and that was enough to keep Winona State at bay for the remainder of the game. Flom drilled a pair of huge kills late to knot the score at 23-23, but the home team answered with two straight points for the win, including a block on the final point.
Paige Christopher and Madison Rizner combined for 14 kills in the setback. Christopher, Flom and Rizner also recorded two blocks apiece.
Bre Maloney set the offense with 30 assists and Becca Pagel tallied a team-high 13 digs.
The Warriors conclude their current road trip on Saturday afternoon with a 4 p.m. match at MSU Moorhead.
