MOORHEAD, Minn. – No. 20 Winona State University bounced back from a sweep to the No. 6-ranked team in the country on Friday to flip the script on MSU Moorhead Saturday evening with a straight set victory over the Dragons.
The Warriors claimed their eighth sweep of the season by set scores of 25-16, 25-11, 25-16.
Winona State improves to 15-4 (7-4 NSIC) to remain right in the thick of the conference postseason hunt. WSU is currently tied for fifth in the NSIC standings with four other teams as the top eight will reach the postseason tournament.
Megan Flom reached double-digit kills for the ninth straight match and hit .500 or better for the for the fourth time in six matches to lead the Warrior offense.
Collectively, Winona State hit .443 while flooring 48 kills to just nine errors – marking the Warriors' second-best attacking percentage of the season. MSU Moorhead owned a .086 hitting percentage which marks the fifth time this season the Warrior defense has limited an opponent below .100.
The Warriors also needed just three sets to drop a season-high nine aces on the Dragons. Becca Pagel recorded three aces while Kate Masberg and Paige Christopher tallied two apiece. Pagel added nine digs to her night in the back row, and Masberg downed 10 kills.
Bre Maloney totaled a team-best 10 digs for another double-double with 37 sets for the red-hot offense.
At the net, Flom also led the Warriors with five blocks. Christopher recorded four while freshman Mikenna Joerger tallied three. Winona State has now recorded eight or more blocks in five or its last nine outings.
The Warriors return home next weekend for matches against UMary and Minot State to open a three-game homestand in McCown Gymnasium.
