No. 16 Winona State opens road trip with sweep at Bemidji State

BEMIDJI, Minn. – No. 16 Winona State University dominated on both sides of the net Friday night as the Warriors completed a season sweep of Bemidji State University, handing the Beavers their 15th straight loss in the head-to-head series.

Winona State improves to 19-6 (11-6 NSIC) with the triumph and sends Bemidji State to a record of 7-18 (4-13 NSIC).

The Warriors limited the Beavers to a .165 hitting percentage that was stymied by nine blocks. Winona State has registered at least nine blocks in four of its last five matches. WSU ranks fifth in the NSIC with 2.01 blocks/set this season.

Offensively, the Warriors padded their season attacking percentage to a .314 clip on the night. Winona State's .286 hitting percentage for the year ranks second in the conference and inside the top 10 among all Division II squads.

Megan Flom paced the offensive attack with 16 kills on 28 swings to post an attacking percentage of .500 or better for the seventh time this season. Flom's .403 attacking clip this year ranks second in the NSIC. The junior proved she's not just a one-trick pony though, as she also led the way with four blocks.

Paige Christopher floored nine kills and added a trio of blocks in the victory.

Bre Maloney's 41 assists matched her season high for a three-set match and libero Becca Pagel patrolled the back row with a team-best 13 digs. Maloney tallied her eighth double-double of the season with 11 digs.

Winona State concludes its current and final road trip of the regular season on Saturday afternoon at Minnesota Crookston. First serve is slated for 3 p.m.
