WINONA, Minn. – The Winona State University gymnastics team celebrated Parents Night Friday along with honoring senior Natalie Koehler in a dual meet against the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse that saw the Eagles edge the Warriors in the score column, 189-183.15.
Koehler posted a score of 8.8 on beam while WSU tallied a team total of 46.1 in the event. Leah Messelt recorded a 9.475 to lead the Warriors followed by Kelly Johnston (9.425).
Messelt (9.375) and Kaitlyn West (9.35) paced the home team on vault through rotation one while Alexis Burton (9.257) and Hailey Bryant (9.075) posted the top Warrior scores on the uneven parallel bars.
Shelsea Zehr, who scored a 9.025 on bars, posted Winona State's top mark on floor exercise with a 9.475. Messelt and West continued their strong nights with matching scores of 9.325 on the floor.
Winona State concludes the home portion of its schedule on Tuesday, February 19 with another home dual meet against UW-Eau Claire. Competition is slated to begin at 6:30 p.m.
