SHREVEPORT, La. – Winona State University senior Kelly Johnston scored a new career best on the balance beam Sunday as the Warriors dropped a dual meet at Centenary College, 191.05-186.90. As a team, Winona State has posted a score of 181 or higher in each of its last three competitions with Sunday's total standing as a new season high.
Johnston's score of 9.775 stands as a new career best for the All-American as she bested the competition in the balance beam. Her previous career high was 9.75 which she achieved last season. Sunny Hasebe and Megan Tran posted matching scores of 9.425 which were new season highs for each gymnast.
On the floor, Kennedy Utz placed fifth with a season-best score of 9.65. Johnston also recorded a new season-high score of 9.625.
On vault, Utz tied for third with another season-best score of 9.575. Sophomore Maya Fernando was close being with a season high of her own at 9.425.
Freshman Maddy Bronson was another Warrior to record a new high score on the uneven parallel bars, posting a 9.35 to place fifth overall.
The Warriors will be on the road again next weekend for a WIAC meet against UW-La Crosse. Following that, Winona State host UW-Whitewater and Hamline in the Warriors' final home competition of the season on Saturday, February 22.
