After scoring 16 runs in yesterday's victory over Southwest Baptist, the Warriors went cold at the plate as they would score just seven combined runs in the Saturday twinbill. Winona State would fall in the opening game 5-2 and 9-5 in the second.
With the two losses Winona State now moves to 5-5 on the season while the Bearcats move to 6-6.
The first game saw the Bearcats go up 2-0 early, before
Austin Savary continued his stellar season with a sacrifice fly to score
Chad Herbst in the second inning.
Down 5-1 in the seventh, Austin Savery hit a solo blast to left center to cut into the Bearcat, but that was the last run that would cross the plate for the Warriors as they would fall by a final score of 5-2.
Dillon Whittaker (0-2) struck out five batters and walked two in the loss.
The second game saw the Warriors go ahead early before a bevy of Bearcat runs in the fifth and sixth inning put the Warriors away. Winona state managed to garner 10 hits in the 9-5 loss.
Winona State went up 3-0 in the third thanks to a three unearned runs courtesy of an SBU error.
The very next inning two RBI doubles by Zac Strange and
Tanner Williams gave the Warriors a 5-0 lead.
Unfortunately for the Warriors, Winona State couldn't contain the Bearcats after their strong start. Southwest Baptist would score eight runs over the next three innings to take an 8-5 lead.
After getting seven hits in the first four innings, the Warriors would manage just three over the final five innings.
Nicolas Herold (0-2) would pick up the loss.
Winona State won't be in action again until they head to Florida for the Russmatt Florida Invitation March 5-10. The Warriors will open up play against Tiffin University at 12 p.m. on Thursday, March 5.
