The Winona State baseball team fell in their third straight game Monday morning, losing to the Lakers of Grand Valley State by a score of 6-5.
Just like many games this season, the Warriors were the first ones on the board.
Sam Kohnle's first inning RBI put the Warriors up 1-0 after one.
WSU doubled their lead in the second inning off a
Nick Nalewanski double to center field.
Grand Valley State scored five runs over the next three innings to take a 5-2 lead after four.
Derek Martin cut into the Laker's lead with an RBI double in the seventh inning to make it 5-3.
After GVSU gained a run back in the eighth,
Tanner Williams hit a two-run homerun in the top of the ninth to cut the Laker lead to just one. Unfortunately, the Warriors couldn't plate another run and fell by a final score of 6-5.
Taking the loss was
Austin Savary (1-2), who struck out eight and allowed five earned runs over six innings of work.
Tanner Williams and
Derek Martin each went 2-for-4 for the game with Williams recording two RBI's and Martin recording one.
The Warriors will close out their spring break trip with a matchup against Florida Southern College tomorrow at 5 p.m.
