Dragons defeat Warriors in defensive battle

MOORHEAD, Minn. - The Winona State University women's soccer team fell to MSU Moorhead by a score of 1-0 this evening, Oct. 22.

The first half didn't see much action offensively by either team, and the difference maker in the game was a goal by the Dragon's Anna Steadland at the 46:19 mark. Even with relentless attack in the second half, the Warriors were unable to answer.

Winona State out shot MSU Moorhead 15-7 and the Warriors put seven shots on goal to the Dragons four. WSU saw many offensive opportunities in the second half, where they had 10 shots and five corner kicks. MSUM's goalkeeper Kayleigh Sedlacek was able to save seven shots on goal and hold the Warriors scoreless.

Missy Greco led Winona State offensively with five shots, two of which were on net. Emily Chudik also had two shots on goal and four shots total. Riley Harmon and Madyson Dye garnered the other shots on goal for the Warriors. Yanel Ortiz started the game in net for WSU, saving two of three shots on goal. Alyson Jumper played the final 40 minutes and saved the only shot she faced.

The Warriors will look to bounce back on Sunday, Oct. 24, as they play at Northern State when WSU and NSU will take the pitch at 1pm.
