Warrior Game Day: Volleyball

WINONA, Minn. – The Winona State University volleyball team moved up to No. 9 in the current American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) poll and are looking to extend their six-match win streak in a marquee matchup at No.4 Concordia-St. Paul.

This past weekend the Warriors defeated University of Minnesota Crookston and Bemidji State, extending their dominant win streak as they now have swept six straight conference opponents.

Concordia-St. Paul is also red-hot, currently owning a seven-match win streak.  Most recently, the Golden Bears defeated two nationally ranked teams as they took down No. 16 St. Cloud State and No. 22 Minnesota Duluth.

WSU's success is highlighted by several key players across the floor.  Megan Flom is currently ranked second nationally with a hitting percentage of 0.477, and Madison Rizner is 13th overall hitting 0.408.  Flom is also ninth overall, averaging 4.28 kills per set.  Bre Maloney sits fifth in the nation with 11.45 assists per set.  Becca Pagel is averaging 5.10 digs per set, good for 39th in the nation.  As a team, the Warriors are fourth nationally, hitting 0.299.

Within the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC), Winona State leads many team categories including hitting percentage (0.299), opponent hitting percentage (0.110), assists per set (13.33), opponent assists per set (8.67), kills per set (14.79), opponent kills (9.58), and digs per set (17.19).

Individually, the Warriors are well-represented in the conference.  Flom and Rizner are first and third in hitting percentage across the NSIC, respectively.  Flom also leads the conference in kills per set and points per set.  Pagel leads the NSIC in digs per set, and Maloney is second in assists per set.
