Winona, Minn. - The Winona State University softball team, currently #15 in the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) Division II poll, is set to start the NSIC portion of their 2021 schedule today when they travel to Fayette, Iowa to take on Upper Iowa University.
The Warriors will face the Peacocks, in a NSIC double-header starting at 2pm.
Head coach
Greg Jones and his WSU team have had success trekking south of late, as the Warriors have won their last six against UIU, most recently a 10-0 shutout win and 7-1 victory in a pair of games at UIU on March 27, 2019.
Current NSIC Preseason Player-of-the-Year
Alison Nowak had two home runs that day, while Warrior pitchers
Jordyn Kleman and
Liz Pautz combined to hold the Peacocks to just five hits between the two games.
Although today's contests are more than two years removed from those wins, Winona State will want more of the same from the same cast of characters, as Nowak, Kleman and Pautz will likely factor heavily in the outcome this afternoon.
Also performing well so far this spring is
Katie Kolb; the senior from St. Charles, Ill. is hitting .421 overall, with six RBIs in 38 at-bats. A patient hitter, Kolb has drawn 12 walks and scored 12 times for WSU. Kolb was recently featured on the
NSIC Podcast series; please

Currently, the Warriors are 11-2 overall, and are the second-highest ranked NSIC program, with #3 Augustana University the only conference program also in the NFCA Top 25. Minnesota State - Mankato is receiving votes.
